Take Advantage of General Practice Membership!

Independent business studies show that up to two-thirds of the average cost of a medical office visit is associated with paying administrative costs related to insurance coverage. By eliminating this waste, we can pass substantial savings onto our patients.

This ideal approach saves the patient significant cost and allows the doctor to spend more quality time with each patient.  In addition, Doc Tommy’s office has negotiated to receive special pharmacy coupons that can save our patients as much as 75% on important prescription drugs and equally significant savings on key lab tests and in-office procedures.

Medical Marijuana in The News

mmj-news-sm

Being an informed patient puts you in charge of your health and healing.

We encourage you to stay up-to-date with the rapidly changing policies concerning Medical Marijuana (from farming to distribution), especially with the current, federal administration and its choices for its officers.

Research: A new study from the University of Colorado Boulder’s Department of Psychology & Neuroscience and Institute of Cognitive Science revealed that 80% of cannabis users mix marijuana and exercise.  This study refutes the stereotype that marijuana makes people lazy, couch-potatoes.  See The New Runner’s High? Examining Relationships Between Cannabis Use and Exercise Behavior in States With Legalized Cannabis.  Just days before, a Michigan State University study suggested that marijuana consumers experience obesity at lower rates than non-users.  See Are cannabis users less likely to gain weight? Results from a national 3-year prospective study.

Traveling with MMJ. This year on 4/20, in an Instagram post the TSA said their officers do not search for marijuana or other illegal drugs. “But in the event a substance appears to be marijuana or a cannabis-infused product, we’re required by federal law to notify law enforcement. This includes items that are used for medicinal purposes.”  Since the Federal government considers any type of cannabis product illegal (including CBD) travel — even from one legal state to another—  is considered transporting an illegal substance across state lines.  TSA agents will notify and turn you and your MMJ over to the local police.  To make things more confusing, policies vary between airports and the policing agencies.  Several airlines, including American Airlines, will not allow passengers to transport MMJ on flights.  See Transportation Security Administration’s stand on Medical Marijuana

Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries Reintroduce Bill to Federally Decriminalize Marijuana. First introduced last year, Marijuana Freedom and Opportunity Act would remove marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act (where it is classified as a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance) and provide a certain level of support for small entrepreneurs in any resulting legal industries.  Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is Senate Minority Leader and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (N.Y) is the Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus.  In a new video shot in their home neighborhood of Brooklyn, the Congressmen pitched the federal decriminalization of marijuana and propose to allow states to choose how to regulate sales.  Read more…

MIT and Harvard Receive $9 Million Grant To Study Effects of Cannabis on The Brain. A Manhattan, NY-based cannabis industry investor, Bob Broderick, has donated $9 million (believed to be the largest donation to fund cannabis research) to MIT and Harvard for research on cannabis and its effects on the brain. Since it is listed as a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance by the federal government, obtaining funding is very difficult for cannabis research.  Having made tens of millions of dollars in the Canadian cannabis industry, Broderick can offer money “from the cannabis world that can go back into learning more about cannabis products” and feels that more private funding for cannabis research is soon to come.  Read more…

Have you read the The Daily Mail article that Doc Tommy is quoted in? This article leans towards disparaging the beneficial effects of Medical Marijuana, stating, “There is no conclusive evidence that marijuana helps with chronic pain and post-traumatic stress disorder, experts say.” Hmmm, just who are these experts? It’s worth reading if for nothing else but to see what Doc Tommy says.
