Knit these pretty socks with intriguing cable details.
These agreeable socks are rife with texture and intriguing details. Cables weave and loop, flirting with eyelets as they go. Worked toe up with patterned arches, the Mistress of Donwell Abbey socks are sensibly designed and extravagantly patterned a fitting homage to Emma Woodhouse. They are romantic enough to suit an elegant lady yet comfy enough for modern shoes. Finished Size: 8 foot circumference and 7¾ long from back of heel to tip of toe. Yarn: Yarn Love Elizabeth Bennet (65% superwash Merino, 20% bamboo, 15% silk; 195 yd [178 m]/1¾ oz [50 g]): pizzaz, 2 skeins. Needles: Foot and heel—size 1 (2.25 mm) (see Notes). Leg—size 3 (3.25 mm). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge. Notions: Markers (m); 2 cable needles (cn); tapestry needle. Gauge: 36 sts and 48 rnds = 4 in St st on smaller needles. Originally Published: Jane Austen Knits Fall 2012
