According to WWD, Alexander Wang is leaving his post as creative director of Balenciaga in the fall. In taking on design at the revered house in 2012, Wang proved that he's not simply a master of capturing the zeitgeist of street style, as he's done since his own label's first inception. He showed that he also had the couture chops to articulate brilliant tailoring and form at Balenciaga, which is what the brand's heritage is based on. Under Wang's tutelage, the stores were updated to a stark modern black-and-white scheme, incorporating the brand's signature marble motifs into everything from prints to fobs on handbags. He replaced designer Nicolas Ghesquière, who moved to Louis Vuitton after 15 years at Balenciaga. Neither Wang nor Balenciaga has confirmed the move, but, according to sources from WWD, Wang's spring 2016 collection, to be shown in Paris in the fall, will be his last for the house. During his tenure at Balenciaga, Wang has outfitted several red carpet stars as well, most notably Lady Gaga and Taraji P. Henson at this year's Met Gala.
