With Spring on the horizon, we’ve added a new style to the Dawson ranks - our new Painter Pant. Made by hand in our Brighton workshop, our Painter Pants are informed by a range of iconic workwear pants from the Bib and Brace pants from the 1920s and 30s, to their evolved multi-pocket counterparts (known colloquially as Painter or Carpenter pants) that set the pace for future workwear trousers in the middle of the 20th Century. Like most workwear, these ‘painter’ and ‘carpenter’ styles were thrust into the fashion zeitgeist after being adopted by a subculture. The early 1970s saw a boom in outdoor activities like camping, hiking, and notably rock climbing. California, specifically Yosemite National Park, became the hotspot for groups of free-spirited climbers, like the infamous Stonemasters, who brought a new sartorial flavour to the world of rock climbing
