Named after the Higo Province in Japan, the Higonokami knife was developed at the end of the 19th century as demand for samurai weapons, like katanas, decreased, and blacksmiths started producing smaller goods. Since 1894, Japanese bladesmiths have hand-crafted this simple folding pocket knife for everyday use. While there were once 40 members in the guild making genuine Higonokami knives, today there is only one maker left still making these knives, in Miki-city, Japan. This lightweight knife is known for it's simple, slim design, and durable blade made of Yasuki Blue Steel.
