Your Vanagon cooling system requires phosphate-free coolant and distilled water. VW included a tag like this one on original overflow reservoirs to remind technicians of these important details. If your coolant overflow reservoir tank is missing the original tag, replace it before you find yourself in serious trouble. Better safe than sorry!

In fact, the price is so inexpensive that we recommend purchasing a spare (just in case). Coolant level fill line: Disregard all MAX FILL markings on any plastic expansion tank you receive. Fill the tank all the way to the top, and monitor your correct coolant level at the Coolant Overflow Reservoir.Don't forget a new coolant level sensor!
