Exceptional Engraved WWI Brass Shell Case with Egyptian Scene

An exceptional and well engraved WWI brass shell case with and Egyptian style scene set below script dating from around 1915. The large and heavily made shell case is of tall cylindrical shape with its thick original rounded base and firing cap and is formed as a vase. The body of the shell is hand decorated and engraved with a continuous scene of figures in various occupations interspersed with animals, fish and birds set amidst various structures and against a finely decorated ground. The scene is set above a a decorative scroll border with a further band above containing Islamic style script. The shell has an impressed KN mark to the base along with a number 2 and is an exceptional example of ‘shell art’ much of which was produced during the first world war. Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market. In good condition with light wear associated with age and use.
