Dr. Fuji is a character who appeared in the first Pokémon film, Mewtwo Strikes Back and its remake Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution. He also appeared in The Birth of Mewtwo. In the novelization of the first movie, he was given the name of "Professor John Smith". Dr. Fuji may have been inspired by Dr. Tenma from Astro Boy, since both lost their child and attempt to recreate them through science, as well as share more than a passing resemblance.
