Cintura pélvica - e-Anatomy - IMAIOS

By A Mystery Man Writer

The bones of pelvic girdle include the two hip bones, sacrum, and coccyx. Each hip bone is composed of three parts: the ilium, ischium, and pubis. The pelvic girdle is a ring-like structure, connects the axial skeleton (vertebral column) to the appendicular skeleton (bones of the lower limb). It facilitates weight transfer from the upper body to the lower limbs in an upright position. Additionally, the bony pelvic girdle provides protection for pelvic organs including the bladder, uterus, and rectum. The anterior connection between the hip bones occurs at the pubic symphysis, which is a secondary cartilaginous joint, while the posterior connection is formed by the sacroiliac joints, which are synovial joints.
