Churchill tank, the most successful British tank used in World War II. The first model, the Mark I, entered large-scale production in 1941. It was armed with a two-pounder gun in the turret and a 3-inch (76.2-mm) howitzer mounted on the hull. In the Mark II, the howitzer on the hull was replaced by a machine gun.
